Board Members

    Herman C. Sullivan, MD

    President

    Dr. Herman Sullivan graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Neurology at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. He received fellowship training in the Experimental Epilepsy Research Program at Stanford University and currently serves as Medical Director of Multiple Sclerosis at Mercy Health Hauenstein Neurosciences. He currently serves as Board Chair for the Grand Rapids African American Health Institute (GRAAHI).

    Dr. Sullivan has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1998 and is presently an Alternate Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.

        Eric L. Larson, MD

        President-Elect

        Dr. Eric Larson received his medical degree from the University Of Iowa College Of Medicine before completing his residency in Iowa City. Dr. Eric Larson currently serves as the president of Anesthesia Practice Consultants. He began with the group in 2004 after completing his Anesthesiology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

        Dr. Larson is board certified with the American Board of Anesthesiology and has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 2008.

            Jayne E. Courts, MD

            Past President

            Dr. Jayne Courts earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She currently practices at Mercy Health Physician Partners in Kentwood.

            Dr. Courts has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1992 and is presently a Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.

                Megan M. Edison, MD

                Secretary - Treasurer

                Dr. Megan Edison earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. She is board certified with the American Board of Pediatrics and currently practices at Brookville Pediatrics & Internal Medicine in the Grand Rapids area.

                Dr. Edison has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 2013 and is presently an Alternate Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.

                    Sandra K. Dettmann, MD

                    Director

                    Dr. Sandy Dettman earned her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed her surgical internship and general surgery residency at the Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is board certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine and currently practices at The Dettmann Center P.C. in the Grand Rapids area.

                    Dr. Dettmann has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 2015 and is presently an Alternate Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates.

                        David E. Hammond, MD

                        Director

                        Dr. David Hammond earned his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Bronson/Borgess Hospitals in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He obtained fellowship training in Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and currently practices at Forefront Dermatology in Grand Rapids.

                        Dr. Hammond has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1980 and is presently an Alternate Delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society House of Delegates. He was elected to a 3 year term as a KCMS Director in 2005 before becoming Secretary/Treasurer in 2008 and served until 2011. He rejoined the Board in 2012.

                            Gerald R. Lee, MD

                            Director

                            Dr. Gerald Lee earned his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.  He currently practices with Spectrum Health Medical Group in the Grand Rapids area.  Dr. Lee has served as president of the West Michigan Pediatric Society, delegate to the Michigan State Medical Society and as board member of the Spectrum Health Medical Group.

                            Dr. Lee has been a member of the Kent County Medical Society since 1992.
